ILLEGAL MINING: Children and young people work in illegal mines with dangerous chemicals and without safety equipment such as helmets, boots and gloves. The dream of a better future for the family means that many choose to work in illegal mines.

In rainy season unsecured mines often collapses and large quantities of hazardous chemicals from cyanide pools are discharged into rivers and lakes and floods valleys and villages. The contaminated water is the only source of water for people, animals and plants.


The work in the illegal mines is better paid than other jobs, but workers have no rights and many are exploited. Often one or more persons in in a family get sick, injured in accidents or die of "unexplained" diseases. Read more about mining here: INFO OM GRUVEDRIFT
