LIVING CONDITIONS IN HUAMACHUCO

................................................................................................................................................................

Proyecto Amigo – Casa Marcelino is in a town called Huamachuco which lies at 3200 meters above sea level in the Andes of northern Peru. Although the area is of great historical and cultural value, the region and the people are "forgotten" by the state and is not easily accessible to tourists.

The city is surrounded by mountains and has great climate challenges with heavy rain seasons and cold winters. Clean water is scarce and pollution from illegal mining threats both flora and fauna. Knowledge of sanitation and waste management are also inadequate.
